Congratulations and welcome to Freedom and Citizenship! This web page is designed for students who have been accepted to the Freedom and Citizenship program to help you navigate the enrollment process at Columbia. There are a number of forms to fill out so please pay careful attention to each of the following steps:

 

 

Your acceptance email included a personal link to confirm your commitment to joining the program. The rest of the steps below are only applicable to students who have been accepted and have already committed to joining.

Your Columbia University student ID is your key to the dorms, classrooms, and dining halls. Please follow the guidelines below when submitting your photo.

 

Requirements for your Columbia University Student ID:

  • The picture must be color
  • The background must be uniform, light-colored
  • You must be facing forward, with your head and shoulders clearly visible
  • No photos with sunglasses or hats will be accepted

Yes: against a light, uniform background. In color, facing forward, head and shoulders visible, no sunglasses or hat. No: against a busy background, not facing the camera, can't see shoulders, wearing a hat, selfie.

All students must be vaccinated for Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR). Students are encouraged to be vaccinated for Meningitis (MenACWY) and COVID-19.

All students must submit proof of health insurance. If you do not have health insurance please contact our program staff so we can help you enroll.

Your enrollment packet should be filled out with your parent or guardian and includes all the forms requiring signatures from them and you.

 

  • Program commitment: this outlines and affirms your commitment for the year.
  • Assumption of risk, waiver, and release: this releases Columbia University from liability for activity related to Freedom & Citizenship, and authorizes us to seek emergency medical attention if necessary.
  • Transportation waiver and release: this tells us how you'll be traveling to and from campus
  • Media release: this allows us to use photos or videos of you on our website, brochures, etc. We are big on getting student consent before posting anything, but this form is required for legal permission.
  • Health form: this gives us information about your health history

You'll receive these in June, after we've set our field trip schedule for the summer. 

We'll host a mandatory parent and student information session in June (with virtual and on-campus options). The date and time will be announced in May.
