Consortium Partners

Freedom and Citizenship at Columbia encourages the creation of similar programs at colleges and universities throughout the United States. If you are interested in starting your own program, please contact F&C Director Casey Blake and Associate Director Jessica Lee to learn how we can offer assistance.

F&C is pleased to announce two partner programs begun in 2016 at Carthage College and Yale University. At Carthage College, Ben DeSmidt and Eric Pullin received a grant from The Lynde and Harry Bradley Foundation to begin a pilot program of the Humanities Citizenship Initiative in 2016. Professors DeSmidt and Pullin won a renewal of their grant from the Bradley Foundation as well as a grant from the PNC Foundation to continue the program into a second year. At Yale, Bryan Garsten began a two-week residential program in 2016 for New Haven students titled "Citizens, Thinkers, Writers: Reflecting on Civic Life." The program is currently seeking applications for 2017.
