First, your book review should get your reader interested in the book. Assuming you didn't hate the book: what is important about the topic? What is interesting or new about the style? What is the big question or big problem this book is trying to answer or solve?

Next, figure out the author's answer or solution to the problem and tell your reader how the author goes about finding that solution. What is the author studying in this book? How does she/he go about finding answers (interviews? personal experience? scientific study?) How does she/he organize and present the evidence? This section could give a summary and background about the book, but it should really focus on how the author is answering the big question.

Next, your book review should include your analysis of the text. This is crucial to making the book not just a report but an honest review. Things you may consider here (you don't need to include them all, this is a list to help you get started):

• What does the author do well?
• Are there specific facts or anecdotes that stuck out to you? Why did they have that affect?
• What do you find most convincing?
• Is the book easy to read and is the argument easy to follow?
• What do you find least convincing?
• Does the author have biases or are there voices missing from the conversation?
• What is missing from the book? 
• What does the author do poorly?

Finally, you want to give advice to your web visitor and your recommendation. Why should someone read this book? What should they keep in mind when reading it? What will they get out of it? Are there important resources someone who is interested in this topic should have?

Bio about the student who wrote this review. Where do you go to school? Where are you going to college (if you know)? Where are you from? What other information might someone want to know about you?
