True Colors Fund Logo
True Colors Fund

This organization works with young LGBTQ people who are homeless. Their mission is important because LGBTQ people are 120% more likely to experience homelessness. The main factor for homelessness among young people is family conflict due to rejection of their sexuality. Their work is mainly focused on giving these young people a safe place to be themselves. The True Colors fund consists of  educating young people about youth homelessness and advocacy of programs that help support homeless youth.

Membership at Picture The Homeless is open to all currently, and formerly homeless people. Anyone can get involved and for additional information call 646-314-6423 or visit any of the weekly organization meetings to get involved in their civil rights or housing campaigns.

Care for the Homeless Logo
Care for the Homeless

This organization fights homelessness by “delivering high-quality and client-centered healthcare, human services and shelter to homeless individuals and families, and by advocating for policies to ameliorate, prevent and end homelessness.” Homeless people are reluctant to seek medical/health care services because of fear of revealing their history and personal information. This makes it difficult for health care providers to provide the necessary care needed for them. They have to gain their trust. The organization has 30 years of experience. They provide service for homeless single adults and families, public education etc.

Coalition for the Homeless

Coalition for the Homeless is the oldest organization in the United States serving homeless individuals and families. They work through litigation, public education and direct services to ensure that every person can get access to affordable housing, sufficient food and the chance to work for a living wage. Their programs, shelter monitoring and grassroots organizing allow them to meet homeless people where they are. Coalition for the Homeless was the key actor in the legal and political fight to establish a right to shelter in the New York City.
