Virtual Student Foreign Service

Each year, VSFS supervisors can begin submitting project proposal requests starting on May 1. All requests are due by June 10. U.S. students can apply to their top three VSFS projects from July 1-31 on USAJOBS.gov. Supervisors will review applications in August and may contact VSFS candidates for a virtual interview. As part of the interview, candidates may be asked to show examples of their expertise and work. All candidates will learn by early September if they have been offered a position.

Once they have accepted a position, eInterns will be expected to work on their projects for about ten hours per week from September through May. Some eInterns have worked with their academic institutions to receive course credit for their VSFS eInternships.
